Description

Kids should learn some common basic orienteering map symbols. The symbols they should learn will depend on the environment you are in and whether you are on an ISOM or ISSOM map. They should be learning the symbols on the map they are using.

Common symbols they will probably encounter:

  • Trail and road symbols
  • Fence symbols
  • Boulders
  • Ponds
  • Man made objects (black Xs and Os)
  • Trees
  • Buildings
